And then Torel opened his eyes.
The boy was floating within the darkness, looking like he was sprawled on the ground moments ago. Blinking, he looked around in a dazed state before realizing where he was. He jolted up and looked at himself. He was wearing that strange suit again - a plain white dive suit with a metallic neck ring to clamp the dive helmet on, a pair of tubes running down the upper torso portion, and dull red-and-brown gloves with gold metallic trims, complete with brown-and-gold arm sleeves attached between the gloves and the suit. A pair of dive goggles were worn over his forehead. Wasn't he wearing his night clothes a few hours ago...?

***The next morning Father left for the trip.***
Professor Sam Murdoch stepped onto the pavement and stopped. Many times had he walked out the door, stepped off the porch, walked down the steps and onto the gravel, but it never gets old. Nor was carrying a heavy briefcase in hand (the equipment and gear were already loaded in the aeroship the previous day) or hearing his family and the rest of the household wishing him safe travels from the doorway.
He looked over his shoulder. By now everyone but Torel (who had just moved from the doorway to the porch) would've gone back inside, but something was different this time. The usual worried look on the young adult's face was replaced with a troubled one.
The professor smiled sadly. He had seen that face before. Even before the Great Monsters came, even though they never spent much time together, the boy would always await
